It is October 1985, and the superhero The Comedian is dead. The vigilante Rorschach thinks that the murder is part of a larger conspiracy to kill every remaining superhero. Rorschach’s investigation intertwines with the lives of other retired heroes while he searches for the murderer to punish them. Before The Boys, Logan, and The Dark Knight there was Watchmen. Watchmen was the first superhero story to question the very idea of a hero. It took the simplistic optimism of previous superhero stories and added human flaws, politics, moral ambiguity, differing philosophies, and a darkness that had never been in comics before. It was the only graphic novel that appeared on Time’s list of the "All-Time 100 Greatest Novels" in 2005 and anyone who has read it will agree that Watchmen deserves it.
