Xin and Piao are best friends and poor slaves who dream of leaving their village to become “Great Generals of the Heavens” for their kingdom, Qin. Piao achieves this dream when a nobleman catches the boy’s sparring and offers to take Piao to perform a sacred duty at the royal palace. The two friends promise to meet each other again. A few months later Piao returns to the village on the brink of death. With his last words, Piao begs Xin to travel to another nearby village. Xin goes to the village to find a boy who looks almost exactly like Piao. The boy reveals he is Ying Zheng, former prince and now king of Qin. Ying reveals they brought in Piao to protect the prince as a body double and without Piao, Ying would have died in the recent coup d’état for the throne. Now Xin must find the courage to honor his friend’s wishes and become the warrior he always could to protect Ying and bring an end to the Warring States period.
