Considered by many to be the first true horror film, The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari may seem tame by today’s standards but thrilled audiences during the early twenties. It’s expressionistic style and atmosphere was influential to many, as it followed the story of a sleepwalking killer who is under the control of an insane hypnotist. The film also began the twist ending phenomenon which means that spoiler alerts have been in order for over one hundred years.
