Miyamoto Musashi was one of the most legendary swordsmen in Japanese history. Only few rival his victories and exploits as a warrior, which makes his story the perfect candidate for a fictionalized retelling. After the Battle of Sekigahara, only two soldiers from the losing side survive. These are the teenage boys and best friends, Matahachi Hon’iden and Takezō Shinmen. A bandit attack causes the two friends to separate, and Takezō is on his own. He changes his name to Miyamoto Musashi and becomes a vagabond and travels the land to fight strong opponents to become Invincible Under The Heavens. Vagabond is the epic tale of Musashi’s life and the powerful opponents he overcomes during his quest for strength and enlightenment. Tales of battlefield glory and honor have convinced Musashi that becoming Invincible Under The Heavens will bring him fulfillment, but he slowly learns that unrivaled strength is not what it seems.
