The Sound and the Fury is one of the most convoluted and confusing books you will ever read. Even Faulkner himself confessed he failed to convey the plot of The Sound and the Fury in a way that was satisfying and not confusing. It is told in four specific parts, each from the perspective of a different character, and out of chronological order. On the surface, it is about the three brothers of the wealthy Compson family’s obsession with their sister Caddy. Yet that does not scratch the surface of what The Sound and the Fury is about. Only those who are willing to give the utmost concentration and patience will be rewarded with a rich and interesting story about resurrection, renewal, and the corruption of traditional southern values.
