One of the last great silent films in the wake of talkies, Passion of Joan of Arc, did not have the luxury of words. The actors used body language and facial expressions to portray each scene. It was based on the trial of the legendary Joan of Arc, the teenage heroine of France that was burned at the stake. The film drew praise from critics for the exceptionally emotional performance of Renee Falonetti, which is proclaimed one of the greatest in cinematic history.
