After World War II ended, Atlas Comics abandoned superheroes to create fresh stories to grab the attention of more readers. Despite releasing comics in many genres, Atlas Comics never tasted the success that DC Comics achieved with their new superhero team, The Justice League of America. Martin Goodman, head publisher of Atlas Comics, saw what the people wanted and approached his writer Stan Lee to make their team of heroes. Lee teamed up with the legendary penciler Jack Kirby to create something bold and new before. In 1961, Atlas Comics, under the new banner of Marvel Comics, published Issue 1 of The Fantastic Four. It started a revolution that changed comic books and the superhero medium forever. Some of the most iconic events in comic book history happened during Lee and Kirby’s run. The Marvel Age of Comics had begun, and it was more than a marvel. It was... fantastic.
